directors rough commentary script

>Peer reviews- comment on re-filming, making the star persona clearer, more (and more creative) angles and shots.

>Opinion on final product-acting on peer reviews, strong and in depth video, strong narrative, a good final product, which means better ancillary products

>adding of a fully fledged narrative

Planning for evaluation task 3

What have you learned from audience feed back?

for this task we need to create a directors commentary, which includes clips from the music video, and ancillary tasks as well as vox pop presentations of audience feedback. we have recieved feedback through vox pops of our rough cut, and peer reviews. we have acted on our peer reviews and rough cut feedback. in our next lesson (5/12/12) we will record a vox pop of our own evaluation and reviewing the changes we have made throughout the production process.

Comments we have recieved:

include more of chloe

more narrative

different shot types and angles

not as much lip-syncing

Final Digipak

T2-09 digipak final

We had a 6 pane template but we decided to only use 4 due to time.

Bonus content ideas for the Digipak

As this is a special release album it would be a great idea to include certain 'bonus features' in the digipak. Such as:

>posters of the band

>Live tracks and perhaps featurettes of the tracks

>free entry into competitions (for, personal gig, memorabilia, tour tickets e.t.c.)

Monday, 26 November 2012

Ideas for track listing on the Digipak

>Live like we're dying (Title track)
>Standing in time
>The end where I begin (Script song)
>The wake up call
>Lift me up
>Save me
>We cry (Script song)
>A little heart to heart
>Paper heart
>Time and again

we also thought as the digipak is a 'special release' album we should include some 'bonus' tracks:

>The man who can't be moved (Script song)
>If you ever come back (Script song)

Peer reviews

on the 5th of November we received feedback from the rest of our class. this gave us an opportunity to further improve our music video and get advice from external sources that were on our level. we found that most people thought we needed more footage in different locations with a wider variety of angles, to this end we organised another evening of filming. another point was that people couldn't 'see' the star persona, which was the focus of the new filming. other than that our lip syncing was, apparently, quite effective, the camera control was good and the mise-en-scene was relevant and material was appropriate.

Our Final Music Video

This is our final music video! We are very pleased with it overall and we feel we have improved it a lot since our rough cut.

Evaluation task

http://img2.blogblog.com/img/video_object.png
 Task 1
The Script's style of music is within the pop genre. While we are in the early stages of editing, we have already managed to cut between a variety of scenes and camera angles showing the singer singing. This is stereotypical of a pop video, as a lot of scenes allows for a lot of cuts, which keeps the video interesting for the audience and a focus is usually kept on one or two key figures in the band. The slowed down and then reversed shot of the clock smashing technique isn't found in many pop videos, with the aim of being different enough to keep the audience interested, without looking out of place in a pop video and tying in with the theme of time.

In order to have some variation on just cutting between performance shots, Due to the title of the song 'Live Like We're Dying' we decided to include some narrative footage emphasising time. The relationship between lyrics and visuals in our video is for the most part amplified. The best example of this is where the lyrics are "Live like we're dying', we cut to a slowed down then rewinded shot of a clock smashing. The purpose of this is to support the meaning of the lyrics, but placing an emphasis on time.

When considering the relationship between the music and visuals, at this stage of the editing process the only notable editing technique we have included is editing to the beat through out the first verse and chorus. This is a technique we intend to implement throughout the video, as is often the case in the Pop genre.

Our singer is the main focus of the video; with many close ups of him singing. In all of the shots of him singing, he is the main and perhaps even sole focus within the scene. This should fulfil any artist presence based demand of the record label and promote brand awareness. However it is worth considering filming some more exiting shots of the singer, perhaps incorporating some camera movement, which should help to improve the flow of our music video.

An example of notions of looking in our video is the scene where the singer is sitting in front of a graffiti covered wall. This setting is very contradicting to the singers clothing, which will hopefully engage the audience by leaving the contrast unexplained, thereby urging them to form their own opinion of his star persona.

Task 2

Due to our original filming difficulties which resulted in us losing a days filming, we have had to spend all our group time editing so far and have not had much of a chance to discuss the ancillary tasks. Although we do have a large number of still's we have taken for the digipack, we just need to select which of them will fit best with our other products and our star persona.

On the other hand, our magazine advert created on photoshop went well, and we gained a lot of skills and knowledge regarding photoshop, none of us having never used the programme before. Our magazine advert contains elements suggestive of the pop genre. I think we should emphasise these features in the digipack which should combine our products effectively, hopefully resulting in the overall product appearing professional and well planned.

Task Four

http://rosieapps.com/USERIMAGES/MTV%20ROCKS%281%29.JPG

Thanks to digital television, there are many different music channels available. These cover a wide variety of genres and artists. For example Kerrang plays mostly rock and metal music videos, and the various MTV channels cover pop, rap, alternative, rock and many more genres. I believe the Script are most likely to be played on MTV Rocks. The channel would play The Script during one of their less heavy, more pop influenced rock playlists.

Scuzz is a channel aimed at fans of metal music, and does promotions such as giving away free guitars in competitions aimed at metal fans. As The Script are a pop/rock artist playing there music would never be considered at Scuzz, as they are not the type of artist its viewers want to listen to.

When considering internet channels that may exhibit The Script's music video, it is very relevant that the majority of music videos watched online are on YouTube. On YouTube, The Scripts music videos with the most views are distributed through Vevo, which also posts a wide array of other music genres.

For a broad range of successful advertising our video would be viewed through both of the channels mentioned above. This ensures a larger group is made aware of our product, and will be exposed to it more often.

tutorial video on how to create a Time lapse

this will help in the creation of our own time lapse sequences for our music video to ensure we are prepared for the editing section of our project.

Health and Safety awareness of Our Filming

In our video we are going to smash up a clock, we have thought about the risks of this and we are going to do it in a controlled environment taking precautions so both the group and others around are kept out of danger.
We are also filming near the river so will also have to consider safety here as well. This is why we have checked the weather conditions which are meant to be sunny for the day of filming reducing the risk.

Planning for Filming lesson

In this lesson we are planning for filming, above is the weather forecast for the day we are filming so we can adjust what we are filming to the weather. Below is a picture of us beginning our ideas for our locations, shot types and narrative.

The scripts 'image'

we will style our singers image on the scripts image, as it fits well with the song and gives a strong base from which to build the rest of out stars persona for the ancillary products.

example of a time-lapse

This as an example of the sort of time lapse we would like to use for our music video. However we would have one person stand still for the duration of the time lapse, creating the effect that time is moving fast, which ties in with the title and lyrics of the song 'Live Like We're Dying'.

music video project pitch write-up

throughout our project, particularly the video, we are going to focus on a theme of time, such as clocks and a time-lapse. also for the album cover we have considered the use of either a sepia or black and white filter. For the magazine advert we had the idea of a clock (unsure if analogue or digital) ticking down until the release date of the album advertised.

the scripts live like we're dying, video and lyrics

Lyrics of the scripts 'live like we're dying'

Sometimes we fall down and can't get back up
We're hiding behind skin that's too tough
How come we don't say I love you enough?
Till it's to late, it's not too late

Our hearts are hungry for food that won't come
We could make a feast from these crumbs
And we're all staring down the barrel of a gun
So if your life flashed before you
What would you wish you would've done

Yeah... gotta start
Lookin at the hands of the time we've been given it
This is all we got and we gotta start pickin it
Every second counts on a clock that's tickin'
Gotta live like we're dying

We only got
86, 400 seconds in a day to
Turn it all around or to throw it all away
We gotta tell 'em that we love 'em
While we got the chance to say
Gotta live like we're dying

And if your plane fell out of the sky
Who would you call with your last goodbye
Should be careful who we let fall out of our lives
So when we long for absolution
There'll no one on the line

Yeah... gotta start
Lookin at the hands of the time we've been given it
This is all we got and we gotta start pickin it
Every second counts on a clock that's tickin'
Gotta live like we're dying
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/t/the_script/live_like_were_dying.html ]
We only got
86, 400 seconds in a day to
Turn it all around or throw it all away
We gotta tell 'em that we love 'em
While we got the chance to say
Gotta live like we're dying

Like we're dying oh-- like we're dying [x2]

We only got
86, 400 seconds in a day to
Turn it all around or throw it all away
We gotta tell 'em that we love 'em
While we got the chance to say
Gotta live -- like we're dying

We never know a good thing till it's gone
You never see a crash until it's back on
All those people right when we're dead wrong
You never know a good thing till it's gone

Yeah... gotta start
Lookin at the hand of the time we've been given here
This is all we got and we gotta start livin it
Every second counts on a clock that's tickin'
Gotta live like we're dying

We only got
86, 400 seconds in a day to
Turn it all around or throw it all away
We gotta tell 'em that we love 'em
While we got the chance to say
Gotta live like we're dying

Like we're dying oh -- like we're dying [x2]

We only got
86 400 seconds in a day to
Turn it all around or throw it all away
We gotta tell 'em that we love 'em
While we got the chance to say
Gotta live like we're dying
Live like we're dying
(Silence)
